Trip to Uruguay

At the end of May we had a double purpose in making a trip to neighboring Uruguay: one, to get our visas stamped and two, we wished to meet a pastor that has invited Violeta, one of our students, to join a team that will go to Haiti and work in an orphanage they are planning on building there. That has been her dream. To our surprise, pastor Jorge Marquez’ church is the largest evangelical one in Montevideo, Uruguay. It is called “Misión Vida” and the name fits. Their mission is to help broken, destitute people get cleaned up, alive in Jesus, and begin to live out the purposes God has for them.
We had the privilege of visiting 10 of their 25 communities where they take in men, women, mothers with children, single girls and give them a transformed life. In each community they have a source of income and provision. They are growing gardens and selling the produce, raising pigs and cows, baking in their bakery, sewing, silk screening, producing radio and TV programs, and a newspaper, raising gold fish and building the aquariums to sell and crafting flowers.
The Lord has given each community a creative vision to be self sustaining. It opened our eyes to all the possibilities of how to help people. Many of the people that live here came out of a life of drugs, alcohol, and prostitution on the streets—often homeless, abused and left without any hope to survive. The testimonies are incredible and heart wrenching. We were personally touched too by how they welcomed us and cared for us while we were there!

Tea for William & Virginia
June 5th we had a tea for William and Virginia to inform the community and help them
out financially for their move to Asia. They hope to travel in August and to get settled
before school starts. They will be attending college and learning more of the language.
Also they will be involved with another person and helping out wherever the needs are.
We had a lot of fun setting the theme and ambiance and despite so many other commitments
we had a good turnout. We will definitely miss them but we know their hearts are there and we want
to bless them as they get ready to leave.

The tea had a China theme Noemi greeting visitors in an oriental outfit
